What's your mobile number?

YOUR cell phone number could change your destiny - at least, that's what numerologists would have us believe.

And this seems to be one line of thought that Hyderabadis don't want to risk quibbling with. In their pursuit of lady luck, more and more people are approaching numerologists to find out the 'right' cell number for them. They believe the perfect combination of numerals will give them an edge over competition, be it their rivals in business or the boy next door who is trying to catch a pretty girl's fancy.

Numerologists say at least 50 customers approach them every month to consult them about their cell phone numbers. "The cell phone is the mediator for a person while communicating with others. And the right number ensures harmony, paving the way for good luck," says S h i v a r a m a k r i s h n a Vajhala, numerologist and astrology consultant.

Numerologists say people change their cell numbers for a variety of reasons. "Students, politicians, business people and film stars want to change their mobile numbers to avoid exorbitant telephone bills or for good business prospects," says Panamal Sanjeeven Nehru, numerologist. Adds Rajasusheela, a numerologist, "Most people go in for a lucky number to improve relationships and hoping to hear some good news." Cell phone companies say that people seem to have a "fetish" for certain numbers. But then, it's not easy to get the number of your choice. "In most cases, customers choose a network based on the availability of numbers of their choice. But, we provide such services only for important and high net customers who use our services extensively," says Kumar Ramanathan, chief operating officer of Hutch.
